Anika's Post

Gas Explosion
By: Anika

There was a terrible disaster in the bay area. How did the gas get out of the under ground tubes? No one knows but what we know is that there was a neighborhood next it and there were many that were injured. Some people were able to get out of the fire but were badly burned. Also, there are a few people that lost their lives. There were many firefighters from every neighborhood that came to help calm the fire down. The fire shot up to at least fifty feet high in the air and there was so much carbon dioxide that some people could hardly breathe. This underground natural gas tube is owned by PG&E. They are the ones that give us our electricity and gas. The big question now is if PG&E is to blame for all of this? Or, was this just an accident that they could not have prevented? What do you think? If PG&E is to blame, what should they have to do as a consequence? Let me know what you think.

Wow! That is very scary. I would blame PG&E for this disaster. They were the ones that didn't do anything when the neighbors complained about the smell of gas! They should pay some sort of fine! Donate money! Buy the people new houses! I think that they need to donate or give something to those people! They are homeless!

PG&E is to blame for this accident because they were called over a few times to check the gas pipe. They reported that everything was fine. If PG&E will have a consequence, it should pay for all the damage and burned homes and also secure the gas pipe to make sure that nothing of this sort happens again.

I think PG&E should be blamed for all this and should pay for the damage and for the people who ended up in the hospital. I think they should pay because they told the neighborhood not to worry so they did not have to evacuate. Even though what happened was a accident they should at least have told them we are not sure the best way is to evacuate.

I think PG&E should not be blamed because it could have been someone in the neighborhood who had done it. After all, no one knew who did it. Also, the fire got so big PG&E might not have been able to fix it like most people other than the firefighters.

I don't think that PG&E are the blame because how could they suspect that the tube was going to burst? I do think that they should have checked it once in a while. If PG&E are to blame, I think their consequence should be paying for all the house that have been burned into ashes.

I don't think PG&E should be blamed because even if they were aware of it it would have been near imposable to fix. This was one of those things where lots of people know what's going on, but everybody expects someone else to report it. Therefor, PG&E shouldn't be punished.

I think they should blame PG&E because they didn't check the if the the underground gas pipe had too much gas that it would explode. I think there consequence should be that another company should take their place for sometime. After PG&E have realized what they have done they would be back in business.

I think it wasn't PG&E's fault because when the people in the neighborhood called and said that they smelled gas PG&E came but they said that there was nothing wrong. This doesn't happen usually so I don't think it was PG&E's fault.

PG&E is not to be blame because they couldn't do anything about it. Even though there was a leak, PG&E would have never found the leak in the huge gas pipe. By the time they find the leak, the pipe would have exploded. Then the PG&E people would die for nothing even though they find the leak. There shouldn't be any consequences because if you had insurance, they would pay for the damage the fire made.

I think that PG&E deserves to get blamed at. If they hadn't have said it is all fine at the tests then many lives and lots of money would not have gotten lost. I also think that they should test more closely in every city's natural gas pipes. I think the consequences are to pay the money that the city lost in the fire. I hope that PG&E are going to pay this and will learn their lesson from the fire that will never be forgotten by PG&D.

I'm not convinced that it was P,G, &E's fault because they said that they do not have any records that said people smelled gas. There was one leaky gas meter that they changed. The pipe is old and it might have just broke. So, we need to wait until they find out what caused the disaster before we decide if P,G,&E is at fault. If it is their fault they should replace the homes and give each family some money.

I think PG&E should be responsible for the accident. They are the ones that said that the pipes were fine. When they heard conplaints that the air smelled like gas, they should of took a look then. Not until the accident already happened, then it's already too late. They should be sued. Their laziness caused people to lose their precious life.

I think that the PG&E wouldn't be blamed for it because the pipe had too much pressure. Those big pipes are too big for so much gas for such a quick time. And I sort of think that the PG&E could had stopped it but the pipe was just so big. Maybe they could’ve prevented the fire by making the pipe a little smaller or screw it on more tightly. The worst part is that all of these houses are destroyed by the fire and some people died or were severely hurt or burned. It is just too bad that San Bruno got this huge fire.

I think it was PG&E's fault. PG&E received many phone calls. I think a few family started calling PG&E to see if anything was wrong because everybody started smelling gas. This is a serious problem. They might get sued by their surviving family members. The question is How did the gas pipe explode? For now they are investigating how this happened.

I think PG&E should be the ones they blame. The reason I think that is because they own the pipes so they should be the ones that are responsible for the pipes. Also have the responsibilities to keep everyone safe from the pipes so no body will get injured, but they did.

PG&E should be blamed for the accident because the pipe was theirs and they should of kept it maintained nicely so it wont explode. I think that PG&E will have to pay for all the damage. They will have to buy a house for the families who lost their house and they will have to buy the items that people lost. The only reason that PG&E should not be blamed is because that somebody bad might have made the pipe explode.

I think PE&G should be blamed because it was their gas and I think they were puting too much presure in the tubes.I also think they should be blamed because it hit the water tube ane exploded that, so then the fire fighters had to run the lake and back. Also, when the neiborhood complained about the smell to PE&G, they didn't do anything! So finally they had proof by that huge explosion.I'm glad some people made it out, but it would be better if everyone made it out.

I don't think PG&E should be blamed. It is possible that they did not find the leak in the huge gas pipe. It seems like it was just a bad accident.

I think that PG&E should be blamed because that they didn't keep checking the pipe under the city.Really though, if it was a accident, then explain why about a 1,000 houses got destroyed! PG&E should:1. buy new houses for all the people that got their house blown up. 2. They should give money to the hospital because they will have a lot of work to do.

I don't think PG&E should not be blamed for this because they cannot go in and fix the pipe because the pipe might explode in their face. Anothe reason is because if they find the leak the gas would kill them.

I think PG&E is the blame for this scary disaster. The people in the neighborhood called every few minutes that they smelled gas. The people from PG&E kept saying everything is fine! They should at least checked the gas pipe to see if everything was ok. PG&E's consequence should be to pay for everything that the disaster caused.

Rohan R said...

I think that PG&E should get the blame. I think that because whenever the people in the neighborhood call the PG&E, the PG&E say that there's nothing wrong. The PG&E should at least donate money to them and for their neighborhood.

Ryan S. said...

I would blame PG&E for this giant fire explosion.Lots of people called but PG&E just said "It's okay. It's okay". even though the people smelled gas.Since the gas pipe exploded, the firefighters had to get water from about 2 miles away!!!While the firefighters were getting the water the people suffered a little bit because they hadn't put the fire out.PG&E should donate money to help build houses for the homeless and the injured people.PG&E should also pay money to repair the roads.

Rohan K. said...

I do not think that PG&E is to blame for this incident. They didn't cause the gas explosion, and they tried when they investigated the matter. If you were one of those people in PG&E, you would have known that the gas explosion would create such a big fire, so they obviously did their best.

Umair said...

I would blame PG&E because the explosion destroyed many houses in the neighborhood due to carelessness of PG&E.They should have inspected the under ground pipe properly. They should pay for the building the destroyed houses and damaged property. Also they should compensate for the injured people.Next time they should make sure of the safety of the underground pipes.

Oh my Gosh! That is so creepy. Good post Anika! I think PG&E should be blamed because they are the ones who kept on getting called to check on the pipes, and they didn't do anything at all. Maybe a little "you should move just in case" would have helped, since it could have saved people from getting hurt, and maybe the people who were living there could have been a bit more prepared. Their consequences shouldn't be too harsh, since it's not entirely their fault, but they should at least donate something. And they should also fix all the damage that has been done.

I think PG&E are to blame because the people in the nearby neiborhood said they smelled gas in the air. Though PG&E people checked, they said there were no leaks. Although there were more complaints, the company still said everything was fine. They should at least have the people nearby evacuate in case of an accident. I think the consequence for their fatel accident is paying for the burnt houses, injured people, and any other damage.
