My Birthday
By: Malini Ramaiyer

Today (3/26/08) was my birthday, I turned ten. That is out of the single digits and on to the double digits! Even if it was a weekday it was the best birthday I’ve ever had. So many people were nice to me. Some even gave presents and cards. When we went to the pioneer living assembly I got a big piece of Fool’s Gold (pyrite) and the guy who was leading the assembly gave me an arrow head since it was my birthday! How much better can this day get? Well a lot more. We played a really fun game in P.E., called “Conquest “. At CDC I had fun, because I brought chocolate chip cookies for everyone. Finally, me and my family went out for dinner at a restaurant called “Harvest”. That was a wonderful tenth birthday.

Now it’s time for you to come in; how would YOU like your tenth birthday to be? What would you want? WHY???

Talents
By:Himaja Movva
Hi everyone how are you guys doing? Today I want to talk a little about talents. So everyone knows what a talent is, but did you know that a talent can also be something you do all the time? Like for example I love to sing and dance! It's really amazing how I make up steps for each song I dance to! Actually I also have a dance book which I keep for each song I dance to. So far since I have so many interests for dance I also learn cultural dances too. Now lets see about music, I just love it ! I don't know why! So tell me about your talents. What do you like to do? Why?

What Moms Say During A 24 Hour Period
By: Carolyn
Sometimes moms say things that are annoying or funny to us kids, like go clean your room, or go do your homework. One lady that is a mom found out what a mom would say in a 24 hour period. She condensed it down to two minutes and fifty five seconds! It also has 6,718,808 views on youtube. One of our family friends sent it to us. It is amazing because it is sung to the William Tell Overture. I have one favorite quote from the movie. It is "No texting at the table." It is one of my favorite quotes because I text a lot at the table with my parents' cell phones.

Is there anything that your mom has said that is funny? Has your mom ever said any of these things,( from the movie)if so what? If you were a parent would you tell your kids the same things your mom is telling you? Explain why or why not.

The Grand Canyon
By: Sarah Chui

During the winter break, my family and I went to the Grand Canyon. There was snow and we had a snowball fight. We also saw a great hill to sled on but we forgot to bring the sled! At the Grand Canyon, there were trails and we could go out a little into the Grand Canyon. It was so wonderful that my sister even thought it was fake! In the souvenir shop, there were rocks that were polished of many different colors. There were also post cards showing the Grand Canyon everywhere, as well as gemstones, glass models, antiques,( The things Indians made ) playing cards, sweatshirts with the words Grand Canyon on the front, etc.

The Grand Canyon had shades of dark red, light red, red, dark orange, orange and light orange. They were made from the rocks, cliffs, hills and valleys. The colors blended in real good. I couldn't tell where the different colors meet. There were so many layers of rocks, so I didn' t try to count. We saw the Grand canyon in the morning, so the sun shined onto the Grand Canyon directly. The Grand Canyon is 18 miles wide and 5,000 ft. deep! It also is 227 miles long! It was the most amazing sight I would never forget. Are there any sights you would never forget??

Time To Spring Into Spring!!

The end of winter is fast approaching with the beginning of a new season; spring. It made me think of how we actually have different seasons on our planet. How do we know when it is a certain season? It can't be determined by the temperature outside because sometimes in winter it can be as warm as a summer day. I wonder if it has anything to do with the length of the days? In winter, it seems like it gets darker earlier. In summer, it seems like it is the opposite. Hmmm....
Use the picture above and any research to describe the changing of the seasons. What causes seasons? Do the earth and sun have anything to do with it? Try to explain this in your own words and use specific details from your research to prove your point.

CHALLENGE: There are two terms I want you to understand when talking about seasons:equinox and solstice. What do they mean? How do they relate to the seasons?

Playing Baseball with My Dad

by Joel

As many of you know, I like baseball. I also have a big dream of playing major league baseball. In order for me to actually achieve that dream, I must practice. Since the MLB (Major League Baseball) doesn’t allow kids under 16 to join these days, I still have a long time to play and practice. To practice, I play with my dad a lot. It not only helps me in baseball, it gives me exercise and prepares me for all kind of balls that I may see . I also think it is very relaxing. We just throw the ball around a lot in our backyard or driveway. We can’t bat there because it isn’t big enough. Sometimes, my dad takes me to a park with a baseball diamond there. There is a big field there so we also throw the ball around there. I get to bat over there. Wherever I play with my dad, I always enjoy it. I always have fun experiences with my parents. Have you ever had any experiences you enjoy a lot that involves your parents? If you do, please comment on this blog and explain about it.

NINTENDO WII
By: Kevin Yang
So you are a person that likes to play sports but you also like to play video games. You want to do both but there isn’t enough time. Then Nintendo Wii is the suitable system for you. Wii is a video game council but you don’t just use old buttons this time. Your remote has a sensor and the sensor bar equipped with the Wii will sense it and your character will mimic you. You should probably stand in front of the sensor bar so it can pick up the movement faster. Since you’re moving, isn’t that sort of exercising? If that isn’t sporty enough, the Wii comes with a game called Wii Sports. You would probably know what you’re about to do once you hear the title. So your
playing Wii Sports but you want to play boxing. You have to
use the Nunchuk and connect it with you Wii remote at the
bottom and then start boxing. If you like the classic remote
that is just buttons, you can buy that but it’s sold separately.
Games is not all the Wii can do you know? You can create
Mii’s (characters in Wii) and use them to play Wii Sports.
Internet is also available on the Wii but I rather you use the
computer for that. Here are some additionals for Wii sports
like a plastic tennis racket, baseball bat, and a golf stick. It
looks better but it doesn’t really do anything. There is new
game on the Wii that was just released on March 9, 2008, and
it’s name is called Super Smash Bros. Brawl. You can purchase
your Wii at Target, Toys “R” Us, etc. I’m sure you can get from
a lot more stores but these are the only one I know. Right now,
the price for a Wii is probably one hundred dollars but I’m not sure.
You can probably only get one Wii since it’s not very fair but rules might have changed. A normal Wii is white, but there are plastic covers that can cover it and soon it would be the color you want. Same thing with the Wii remote and Nunchuk. Say that today you’re going to your friend’s house and you bring your Wii Remotes along and you have four people playing. You have to Sync with your friends Wii machine since they are like strangers. Once you get back home you sync with your own Wii so you can use your remote on your Wii. Times ticking, better get those Wii before they run out! What are you waiting for?! Hurry up and good luck!

My Trip To Chicago
By: Nandini Iyer
Over the February break I did many fun things with my uncle, aunt and mom. First we stayed at this AWESOME hotel called Blacksmith (it was on a street with a number of Diamond stores). It was cool because this hotel had 3 rooms! One was the bedroom where there was this GINORMOUS window and to my surprise there was a sofa bench connected to the window. Obviously we had beds. Two Queen beds!!!! They had enough space to fit in a TV, desk and a shelf in which there was the TV and under it were some cups. The second room is the one we entered (aka the middle room☺) anyways, there was a second TV a microwave, a refrigerator and some fancy chairs. The third room (aka the bathroom) had the “regular” things they would have in a bathroom.
Right next to this place was the famous sculpture “The Bean”, Art Museum and the Ice Sculpture museum. The Bean and the ice sculpture (picture below) is in the famous Millennium Park. This is indeed the pride of Chicago and I agree that it is a great place to be at even doing nothing. We walked around and saw the frozen Lake Michigan. It was then that I realized what was meant by Ice Fishing. I really enjoyed walking on the field of “ICE”. I was afraid the ice would crack and I would be in freezing cold water. It must be fun to live in a city like that with waterfront and great open spaces. I remember I felt the same way when I visited New York City too.
One night, for dinner we went to the most famous Pizza Place – Uno’s . There is a bit of history I learned about it. The owner brought what we now know as “Deep Dish” pizza to Chicago. His place grew very popular and overcrowded, but he could not expand his restaurant. So, he opened Pizza Due right across the street. We really wanted to eat in either of these two places. But, the wait was a minimum of two hours! I was starving and sleepy and it was already almost 8 PM! It was very cold and dark (obviously). Put all these together and I am not a happy camper.
All in all it was a great trip and it was the first time I was away from home. I was also all by myself without any one from my home (no Mom/Dad/Brother) for a few days in between.
Now, I would like to hear from you:What did you do over the February break? Do you really think Ice Sculpture is an art? What happens when the weather warms up even a bit to say 28 degree Fahrenheit?

Elk Grove, Sacramento, Lake Tahoe
By: Nikita Seth

Over the break ,I went to three places. In Elk Grove ,I went to a party.Elk Grove is a city near Sacramento.I wonder if any of you know about the size and/or population of Elk Grove?I also went to Sacramento.Sacramento is a one hour drive from Elk Grove.I wonder how many cities I went through the way there? What resources did you use?I stayed at one of my friends house. We slept there and then my family and my friend's family went to Lake Tahoe.
This is what happened there: We went tubing{ kind of sledding}.I got to go six times. It was a lot of work walking up the slope, but eventually it was worth it.We went tubing for an hour.We had four tubes and seven people who wanted to do it. One person only went once . How many times could each person go tubing in an hour if each person tubes for 5 minutes each.

My Belt Test and My Tournament
By: Vibhu Singhal

Hello fellow students of Room 19. In this presentation you will watch a video of me testing for my green stripe and me participating in a breaking tournament. In the very beginning you will see me testing. The first thing we did was our patterns. The patterns we needed to know were Dan-Gun and Chon-Ji. Each pattern name means something or is named after someone. We need to know that as part of our theory. The next thing we did was our kicks. We were doing our side turning kicks and our back kicks. The next thing was our Ho-Sin-Sul A.K.A. (self defense). The next thing we did was three step sparring. The best thing we did was our free sparring. Here we do a variety of moves against our opponents. Then we move on to our tournament. You can see me breaking a green board. I hope you enjoyed watching me. See ya! This is an experience I will never forget. Is there any experience you will never forget? If so explain why.
