About 30 min away

We just entered Fremont over the Sunol grade. We should be in around 8:20/8:30. See you soon!

On our way home. . .

We are leaving Sacramento now, at 6:30. As of now, it looks like we should be in around 8:30 or so. I'll post when we are about 30 minutes away. We are full and happy from dinner. We are watching a movie and I'm starting to see many sleepy faces! This is great- signs of a good day!

Sutters Fort

Here at Sutters Fort, we observed what it was like back in the pioneer days. We churned butter, lassoed a bull, weaved a rope, and baked fresh bread. Boy have things changed. Students agreed that 2009 is a LOT easier! They have worked up a hearty appetite today so we're off to dinner!

CA History Museum

This was our next stop on our whirlwind tour today. The students explored two floors filled with artifacts, pictures, models and hands-on stations. They learned about events like the gold rush, native american basket weaving, and tools used in agriculture. Students were on a scavenger hunt trying to locate specific items throughout the museum. We are off to Sutter Fort now! Stay tuned. . .

At the capital. .

Having lunch on the state capital lawn. It is a gorgeous day today! We just got done visiting the railroad museum and will go inside the capital building when we are done. The kids are doing awesome and having a blast! More updates to come!

Geology Rocks!

Today, students became geologists. We discovered the difference between rocks and minerals as we disected our mock rocks. We will see how small we can get the materials by putting the particles in water. I wonder what will happen?

2009 Talent Show

TALENT SHOW
For the first time in history, the Rockhopper Village will conduct a Talent Show!!! This is an opportunity for students to display all of their amazing and unique talents to the rest of the village. Remember, sign-ups will be when we get back from Sacramento. If you sign-up, you must be prepared to get up on stage, project your voice, and present a talent that an audience can see. For example, showing the audience how well you have trained your pet ant would not be something that the audience can see. ;0) You may get together with a group or perform individually, but it cannot be longer than 3 minutes. Your performance MUST be rehearsed though! Also, if there are many of you doing the exact same talent, we will try put you all on stage at the same time (ex: rubix cube). So....what are you thinking of doing for the Talent Show? Do you like the idea of doing a Talent Show?

SPRING!!!
By: Malini

Birds chirping, animals out of their houses, flowers blooming and the sun is out! It’s spring! I personally love spring it is so fresh and green. My name means flower girl and I was born in spring. The weather is always perfect, not too hot, and not too cold; it is awesome weather to play in. My family is buying a lot of plants that grow flowers. My front and backyard is so colorful and pretty. Every time I look out I want to run out there and play. I think I’m going to have a picnic everyday of this break. Even though it is nice outside, sometimes I can’t help but read a great book. Cleary, you can see why I love spring.

What is your favorite season and why? Describe your favorite season.

Instruments
By: Dilip
Have you ever played an instrument? There are woodwinds, brass, strings and even percussion. There are many instruments in the world you can play. Some I like and like to play are guitar and piano. I like guitar, because it is a big part of bands. It feels nice to strum the strings of the guitar. I also like how you can make your own melodies with the guitar. I like the Piano, because the movement of your fingers is fun. I am just starting Piano so I can’t play advanced, but it is still fun to play. If you play an instrument, what is it or what would it be and why?

After School Activities
By: Rujuta

Hi room 19! After school, everyone does something or the other; some people do sports, art, and other things. Well, my after school activities are dance class, swimming class, and karate class. All these activities give me exercise and are really fun. In Karate, I am on the gold belt which is basically level three. In swimming, I have a white ribbon which is three levels away from pre-comp. From these after school activities, I like dance class the best because all the girls there are my age so we play together a lot. Our group usually performs at many competitions and programs too. We have won four competitions ever since I started which was when I was a first grader. So what after school activities do you have and which one is your favorite; why?
