 Halloween

     By: Jasmine

Halloween is coming up in just a few days and I am  excited . One of my favorite parts is searching for a costume. This year I am going to be a witch. Second, I  like going "trick or treating.'' I don't like it just for the candy, I like the feeling of going around in the night and asking different houses for candy. Once, I even went to two different people's houses and figured out they were both people I knew! And they live really close to my house. I enjoy decorating for Halloween too. It reminds me of a haunted house.Do you take part in Halloween? If so, what is your favorite part about it?

Stories from India
by Anita

I like reading stories from Indian mythology.  My favorite book is called the Puffin book of Classic Indian Tales. The book has stories from Ramayana, Mahabharata, Panchatantra and other folk tales. Mahabharata and Ramyana are famous stories about princes and kings from long time ago. Some stories have their setting in the heaven and the earth. The gods use magic powers in these stories to beat the demons and help people. The stories are exciting and funny to read. The illustrations are very colorful. When I was very young my grandma used to tell me some of these stories. The book also helps me learn about Indian history and culture. What is your favorite story from your culture and why?

Diwali
By: Savita

We celebrated Diwali on October 17. Diwali is called festival of lights. My family did exciting things. That is a day that I can never forget in my life. In the morning we woke up nice and early to get ready to dress up. We first prayed to the God to get good health and study well. We got new clothes that we never wore before. I wore an
Indian dress that was green and red. We hit the road and were on the way to my friend’s house. Everyone did programs that we practiced for several weeks. I made a movie by interviewing my friends to ask them what they thought about Diwali. I danced for two Indian songs. I sang one prayer song and one classical music song. Bursting firecrackers were awesome. We burst some that went in circles on a stem. It looked like sparkles flying all around the stem. That was what I did for Diwali. What is one festival you like to celebrate? What is special about that function?
