In The Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson

We just started reading this entertaining, and quite funny, book in class this week. The main character so far is a young girl named Bandit, who finds out she has to move to America and leave her home behind. What have you learned about her so far? Include descriptions from the text to help support your opinion.

How would you react if you found out your family was moving to a country you have never been to before? Why? Explain.

I have learned many things about her like she is respectful and clever. I know she is respectful because she respects the elders in her family by not pestering them with questions, and not talking until she is told to. She is clever because when she gets in trouble with her Grandmother, she thinks of a way using Precious Coins to get out of punishment. If my family was moving to a different country that I have never been to before, I would be sad because I would have to leave my friends and I would have to go to a different school.

If I had to move to andother country I will feel normal and kind of sad. I will fell kine of sad because I like California and I like America. And I'll have to go to a new school. Plus I will be lazy to learn another language. I will feel normal because when I move to another country there will be new places to visit. And I do not want to move to Taiwan because I do not want to argue with my cousins. That is how I will feel if I had to move to another country.

I would be really sad and suprised since it would be hard for me to leave a home that I have stayed in for many years with friends. So when we suddenly have to move i would not like it and would wonder how life would be like.

We have learned that bandit's parents and family know that they will be moving to the United states. But they have not told bandit that because they think she isn't ready to know yet. But they finaly told her and the elderly ones all went around to hug her. Also, Bandit's is when she get's in trouble. She goes to precious coins because grand mother loves precious coins and then precious coins would beg that badit should not get into trouble. That was her plan when she got in trouble.I would fell sad if I had ot leave the United States because I would have to leave my friends and change schools. Plus I would have to make new friends.

It will be extremely scary if you are moving to a foreign country and you didn't know the language. I don't know how Badit survived. I would die. Bandit was a girl who tried to get out trouble. She was also very wise and respectful. She was a brave giorl because she wasn't scared. She had faith in her father. Precios coins is a fat and chubby boy and he is very precious. The author names people by there character.

Bandit is a very clever person. She always has a plan to get out of trouble.Bandit is also respectful. She respects her elders and grown-ups.She also respectful because she does not pester her family, nor does she talk when told not to.If me and my family were moving to a new country that I have only heard of not visited I would be scared to leave everyone.Partly I would be curious and happy to be in a new place with new people.I would make new friends and I would have a completely different environment.

I think Bandit is clever becuase she tryed to use Precious Coins to get out of trouble. I think Bandit is respectful because she does not talk when her elders say she can't. If my family was going to a place I never went to, I would fell scared becuase I am like going to another place in the world. I will also fell sad because I will have to leave my friends and get used to another school.

She is the type to be very curious and is bery clever. She is also very clever like Kedar said. We have also learned that she gets away pretty easily and uses Precious Coins as her excuse. She is respectful to her grandmother because she is like the leader of boss in the Wong Family. If my family were to move somewhere, I would feel very sad yet happy. I would fell sad because I would have to leave my best friend and so we can't play together. The good thing is that I would get to go out into someplace I don't know of and explore new places I never saw or even heard of. My family and I may have a lot of fun and my friends and I may contact by postcards, email, and the phone. This is how I would feel i me and my family members were to move.

I would not like it if I were moving to another country because first I might not know or understand there language. Also my favorite in the world is the U. S. of A.! USA ROCKS! I look forward to reading the rest of the book!

Well, I learned a lot about Bandit. She is very respectful and can control herself. I found this out because even though she wanted to know what to the letter was about she didn't ask, I know I would. So she controlled herself to not ask what the letter was about. Another thing I learned is that she is always jumping to conclusions. I know that because fourth cousin mentioned that she was always imagining everything and supported that fact, Here are some examples: When Bandit said that there was a goldfish swimming in a bamboo tree and it turned out to just be a fallen kite. When she overheard the cook plotting to murder the washer woman even though he was just sharpening his cleaver to kill a hen. Which makes her nosy. Last but not least she is smart, naughty and clever. I know she is naughty and clever because when Awaiting Marriage told her that Grandma wanted to see her Bandit kept a towel under her but and made Precious Coins ( the favored grand child ) come along with her so she wouldn't get into trouble. If my family moved to a different country I would be sad because I would have to leave all the wonderful friends I made and have to make new ones. Plus, I would have to go through the trouble of learning a new language.

I have learned many things about her. She is very funny. I can see she gets her self in to bad things such
as, she thought the cook was trying to kill the washer.
He was only sharpening his knife. She dose not have good grammar. She is nice and uses her brain well.

Bandit is clever, and respectful. She is respectful because if her elders[grandma, grandpa] told her to do like to clean her room or not break any crockery or anything she would try to do it. Clever because she broke a piece of crockery and Awaiting Marriage found out so she said that she would tell grandma. So, bandit made Precious coins hold her feet as a game. When she went to her grandma she fond out she wasn't in trouble. I probably wouldn't know how to speak that language or understand it.

I have learned that Bandit is a very respectful. She does things only when the elders tell her. She is also very clever. Since she broke a piece of crockery on New Year's Eve, the religion is that it means bad luck. Since she thought that Awaiting Marriage told Grandmother, the Matriarch, that she broke crockery, she thought that she was going to be in trouble. Bandit, otherwise known as Sixth Cousin, took a towel, because she thought that Grandmother would hit her with a bamboo stick. She went to Precious Coins, otherwise known as Ninth Cousin, to go with her. Since she knew that all the adults wouldn't hurt Precious Coins, Sixth Cousin tricked Ninth Cousin to hold on to her leg. Bandit told him that it was a game. Bandit is very curious. She asked her best friend, Fourth Cousin, a lot of times about the letter, but Fourth Cousin wouldn't budge. Bandit couldn't even sleep, thinking about the letter. All in all, Bandit is a very interesting girl.

Bandit is very smart because she tricked Precious Coins into looking like he did not want Bandit to get in trouble. She knew that Precious Coins was her favorite cousin. She told him it was a game and if he let go of her leg, he looses. She also put a towel in her back pocket to cushion the hit from a bamboo stick from Grandmother. She also is respectful because no mater how badly she waited to ask a question she could not ask until the elders let her speak.

I have learned a lot about bandit. First, she is clever. When Awaiting M arriage the servant said that bandit hat to go to the matriarch of the house who was Grandma, she thought she would be in trouble she put a towel on her bottom so that if grandma slapped Bandit with the bamboo cane it would not hurt her a lot. Also she told Precious Coins that it was a Game and if Precious Coins would not let go of her he wins. Also she respects her elders and whatever they say must be done.If I had to move to a different Country I did not Know much about I would feel sad because I would have to leave all my friends, and I will have to learn a new language which could be hard since I am so used to talking in English.

We found out that Bandit and her mother had to move to America. And I also think that she is a really clever person. I thnk she is clever because most of the time she gets out of trouble. On time she broke a pot made out of crockery when it was New Year's Eve. And the Wong family believe that if you break somethig during a holiday it will bring you bad luk the whole year.

Bandit (or known as 6th Cousin) got a letter form her father and nobodywas in it, so sh ethough her father was bringing back her grandfather had banished from the houseof Wong a long time ago. While playing with beans with her best friend, 4th Cousin, Bandit thought about the subject and when they had to go to bed she didn't pick up the beans even though she knew she had to. A little while 4th Cousin went to sleep Bandit woke up and told her she thought her father was bringing home the dog her grandfather had banished. 4th Cousin thought it was rediculous and Bandit knew she was right. When she went to sleep she dreamed her father was in a boat in the sea and she see him from the shore. She called to him, but he didn't hear her. She ran into the water, forgeting she couldn't swim. The water splashed on her face and she woke up to firnd Awaiting Marrige, the waitress, on the floor with pieces of pottery on the floor. When Awaiting Marriage went to tell her grandmother, the 2nd most important of the house of Wong, she knew she was in trouble so got dressed and washed up then went to see Precious Coins, the baby of the house of Wong. She though if cried a little bit for her she would be out of trouble and she wouldn't be whipped. So she tricked Precious Coins to holding onto her leg went she put on the ground, but she didn't need to because she was called for a whole different reason. She was called because her grandmother needed to tell her that her father want Bandit and her mother to go to America to live with him. The morning of the first day of the New Year Bandit was givin an American name which was Shirley Temple Wong. The next day theywere off to America.
If my family and i were moving to a different country I would sad and scared because I wouldn't know much of their language and I wouldn't want to leave the rest of my family like Bandit. If my whole family was going then I would be happy, but my famly is so big that i doubt theat is going to happen.Hey this is fun! We should do this for every chapter!

If I had to move to a different country which I don't even know how to speak that language I would be really sad.Bandit (Sixth Cousin) is clever because she used Precious Coins so she wouldn't get in trouble.
She is respectful because when her family wouldn't tell what was in the letter she still obeyed the rules. Bandit doesn't know much about America. As she didn't know much about it she decided her new name would be Shirley Temple Wong. I hope I never have to leave California.

I have learned that Bandit obeys her elders a lot because she doesn't question her elders and beg them to tell what the letter said. Instead, she tries to figure out the secret. She also is clever because whenever she gets into trouble, she always finds a way to get out of trouble using ninth cousin ( Precious Coins ). If I had to move to another country, I would not like to because I will be shy and I think California is the best place to live.

I have learned many details about Bandit like that she is very respectful to everyone especially the elders. One time that she was respectful is when Bandit listens to Grandfather when he calls for attention. Another personality of Bandit is that she is clever. She showed that she was clever when she told Precious Coins to hold onto her leg so she wouldn't get in trouble from Grandmother. Finally, Bandit is also very curios. She is curious when she wants to know what a letter made mother happy, Grandmother cry, and grandfather angry.
If my family moved to a different country that we haven't been to I would be sad but also excited. I would be sad because I would lose all my friends and all of surroundings. My excited side is that I will be able to influence a different country and make new friends.

I learned that Bandit is clever. I think she is clever because when she thought she was going to get hit by grandmother's bamboo stick she put a cusion in her pants. She also made Precious Coins grab her legs to make grandmother think that Precious Coins doesn't want Bandit to get hit. I also think she is respectful because when her parent wouldn't tell her about the letter, she did not ask.

I had learned to respect people.Bandit was full of respect because when she didn't said anything when she wanted to know what the letter was.Another reason is that she didn't talk unless someone said she can talk.

I have learned that Bandit is smart, clever and respectful.
She was smart and clever when she told Precious Coins to hang on to her leg and to beg her grandmother to not punish her.
She is respectful because when she wanted to know what the letter was about she new that she couldn't ask elders so she tried to figure it out her self.
I agree with Kedar that if I had to move to a new country I would be scared. But if I where moving to see someone I hadn't seen in a long time than that would make it less scary.

I believe Shirley respects the idea that her elders weren't telling what was in the letter, and (ha ha;,and) even though her elders had different emotions after reading the letter, it increased her curiosity too. She is also thinking before she says or does anything most of the time. Like she tried to get out of trouble when she broke the crockery. I can tell Shirley loves listening to legends and fairy tales. She is always cautious of everything! Like when the cook was sharpening his knife, but she thought he was plotting to murder the washer. Also when Shirley thought that there was a goldfish in a tree, but it was actually a kite! If I was moving to another country, I'd stomp my feet, jumping up and down screaming "I DON'T WANT TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!". You see I've been moving through a million schools since kindergarten, and I FINALLY settled in Portal for more than one year. So basically I know exactly how it feels. If I moved to Russia suppose, I wouldn't know a single thing over there. If I moved to a different country, I would feel horrible.

I learned that Bandit A.K.A Shirley Temple Fong is pretty clever.I know this because when she broke the piece of crockery and had to see her grandma, she brought Precious Coins to come and see Grandma with her and told him to grab on tightly to her foot. If I found out that we were moving to a new country I would feel both sad and excited. I would feel sad because I would have to leave my friends in the U.S.A.,and excited because I would get to make new friends and go to new places.

I wouldn't like to move to another country because I will have to learn a whole new language before I go there.I would also feel sad because I will have to go to a new environment.Bandit is very clever because she put a towel into her pants so it won't hurt her.Another reason she is clever is that she asked Precios Coins to help her get out of trouble. She changed her name to Shirley Temple Wong because she is a famous movie star.I think people will laugh at her when she says her name is Shirley Temple.

Bandit is a girl that is a bit clumsy, but she is very respectful like when a note came, she wanted to ask badly but she knew better. She is also very clever becausr when she thought she got in trouble she tricked Precious Coins, the most favored grandchild into holding onto her leg so it would look like he did not want her grandma to punish Bandit because Bandit did not want to get punished.I would feel kind of scared because I would have to make new friends and if I speaked a different language I could not talk to anyone but my family.

I have learned many things about Bandit. The first thing I discovered about her is that she is very insulting like at the time she said that fourth cousin would never look pretty. The second thing I discovered about her is that she is clever because when she thinks she gets in trouble she tries to get out of it.Finally, the last thing I discovered about is that she is respectful because when there are rules she obeys them.If I was moving to a foreign country I would feel sad because I would miss my friends back at my old home plus I might not know the foreign countries culture.

I would react curious and scared if I would be moving to another country with my family. I would feel curious because I would want to see how it looks like, and the landscape. I would be scared because I don't know anyone and I might not understand them because they speak another language than I do.
