My Trip To Chicago
By: Nandini Iyer
Over the February break I did many fun things with my uncle, aunt and mom. First we stayed at this AWESOME hotel called Blacksmith (it was on a street with a number of Diamond stores). It was cool because this hotel had 3 rooms! One was the bedroom where there was this GINORMOUS window and to my surprise there was a sofa bench connected to the window. Obviously we had beds. Two Queen beds!!!! They had enough space to fit in a TV, desk and a shelf in which there was the TV and under it were some cups. The second room is the one we entered (aka the middle room☺) anyways, there was a second TV a microwave, a refrigerator and some fancy chairs. The third room (aka the bathroom) had the “regular” things they would have in a bathroom.By: Nandini Iyer
Right next to this place was the famous sculpture “The Bean”, Art Museum and the Ice Sculpture museum. The Bean and the ice sculpture (picture below) is in the famous Millennium Park. This is indeed the pride of Chicago and I agree that it is a great place to be at even doing nothing. We walked around and saw the frozen Lake Michigan. It was then that I realized what was meant by Ice Fishing. I really enjoyed walking on the field of “ICE”. I was afraid the ice would crack and I would be in freezing cold water. It must be fun to live in a city like that with waterfront and great open spaces. I remember I felt the same way when I visited New York City too.
One night, for dinner we went to the most famous Pizza Place – Uno’s . There is a bit of history I learned about it. The owner brought what we now know as “Deep Dish” pizza to Chicago. His place grew very popular and overcrowded, but he could not expand his restaurant. So, he opened Pizza Due right across the street. We really wanted to eat in either of these two places. But, the wait was a minimum of two hours! I was starving and sleepy and it was already almost 8 PM! It was very cold and dark (obviously). Put all these together and I am not a happy camper.
All in all it was a great trip and it was the first time I was away from home. I was also all by myself without any one from my home (no Mom/Dad/Brother) for a few days in between.
Now, I would like to hear from you:What did you do over the February break? Do you really think Ice Sculpture is an art? What happens when the weather warms up even a bit to say 28 degree Fahrenheit?

During the February break all I did was go to chinese school.
The only good thing was that we get to watch tv at recess but everything is boring.
I also spent my time chatting with friends on the computer when I wasnt at chinese school.
I agreed with Jamie about her break but I had a really late Birthday Party. We played bowling at Homestead Family Lanes. It was really fun. We also played in the arcade and I got a lot of tickets and prizes. The best part was that I got so many presents. And my best friend Ishan gave me a HUGE remote controled monster truck. The reason why I like birthday parties is because I can get so many gifts. Since my Birthday Party was on a Saturday, I only enjoyed that day. In other words, the rest of the break was BORING!!!
I think the Ice Sculpture is an art because anything can be art. Also it can be art because in my opinion I think ice sculptures are art.(In my opinion). If it reaches 28 fahrenheit, then the ice will slowly start melting. But if the degrees reach even higher then of course the ice will melt faster.
Nandini that must have been a great trip! Ecspecially the ice sculpture. Did you see anyone make an ice sculpture? It must of been difficult to be away from home for the first time.
My break was pretty boring, except on the Thursday I went to the Jungle with CDC! It was so cool! This is because we got to bring $5.00, so we got to buy whatever we want from the snack shack. I bought oreo dippin'dots and a fruit roll up. Yum!Yum!
If you want to know what i did over the break, read my post.I also had played with my friends.I think the suclputure is art becuase aything you put your mind into is art. I think the artist or the person who made it put its best effort.
That must have been a fantastic trip!! My uncle lives in Chicago and I have heard of the hotel called Blacksmith. Over the February break my aunt came from India for the first time!! We went to Reno and Lake Tahoe. Also in CDC, we went to the Jungle as a field trip!! Isn't that cool!
I didn't do much at all during my break. One of the only fun things that happened was that my friend came over. When my mom told me he was coming, I thought it would be boring. I don't have any game consoles(xbox, playstation). Even so, we had fun. Half the time, we were laughing and telling jokes. The other half, we were trying to find a good game to play on the computer. The rest of my break I just woke up really late, watch TV, and do work.
during the February break I went skiing. It was fun I made a snow fort with my friends who went with us. We were cross country skiing. I do think Ice Sculptures are art, because you can make it into different things like animals, people, and other cool stuff.
In my opinion ice sculpturing is an art. Just imagine how hard it must be to make an Ice Sculpture Because the the ice will keep on meltng.
I think the Ice will melt.
I think what will happen will happen is that the ice will melt and the fish under the Ice can be seen. What I did over the break was stay home and sleep in. A connection is that when I went to a hotel, it also had two T.V, a microwave, a refrigerator a and a bathroom.( of corse!) You sure had a lot of fun over the break. Instead of two queen beds, we had four twin beds.
During February Break , I did a barely anything except stay home or go to the doctor. The first day of break(Friday Afternoon) I went to the doctor because I did was go to the doctor. I went because that week my throat and Jenny's throat(my little sister) where hurting. We both got the strep test. It turns out I was the one the one with strep throat. For about 2 days. Then right after I was feel better my grandparents came. That week we went to star bucks every day.I also think that the ice sculpture is amazing. Last,I don't get what would happen if the temperature reaches 28 f. Would the ice melt?
No I didn't see anyone make the Ice Sculpture. I wish I did though. I was also wondering how they made it. I think they let icicles grow and then they use this type of spray to make it colored.
That must have been an amazing trip Nandini!I do think the Ice Sculpture is a type of art because you have to use creativtiy to do art.During the February break I didn't do much.I played with my friends and I played the Wii with my brother.I had lots of fun with my friends. We went to the park and played jump rope and hop scotch.
I just wasted my February break by just staying home and working on assignments and extra math worksheets. I think Ice Sculpture is art because it's just like sculpting something, but that "something" is ice.
Yes Carolyn. The Ice would melt. It was so freezing that when I went into Blacksmith(the hotel, which was very warm aka hot)my ears were still frozen. My Uncle had to rub my ears for my ears to get warm.
I totally think that Ice Sculptures can be art because they really were carved and in my opinion carving is art. A lot of sculptures are counted as art. I say that if just normal sculptures can be counted as art then why can't an Ice Sculptures.Got to go.See ya!
