My Fishing Experience
by Courtney

“Okay guys we should probably head back,” my dad said. “Awww!” we all said. While we were on the boat heading back to the dock, I started to think about the day. This was my second time fishing. My sister, Lauren, had caught two fish right at the beginning of the day. Even though we were fishing for trout, Lauren had caught a bass. Johnny, my brother, was next. He caught two fish also. It seemed like I would never catch a fish, but then, finally, I caught my first fish! It was exciting, but I just wanted to
catch one more before we left the lake. Suddenly I felt a jolt on my rod! I said “Dad, I think I got a fish!” I started to reel the fish in. When I got it closer to the boat, Johnny said, “This one’s huge! Let’s make sure we don’t lose this one too!” (Earlier in the day, Lauren hooked a monster trout. When she got it close to the boat, before we netted it, her line broke and the fish swam away.) When he caught a glimpse of the fish, Johnny exclaimed, “This one looks even bigger than the fish that Lauren lost!” My dad warned, “You need to be careful because your little reel wasn’t made for such a big fish.” I felt it trying to dive down to the bottom of the lake. To tire it out, I let some line out so the fish could dive, and then I started to reel it back in. When I finally got it close to the boat, I saw how big it really was. My brother grabbed the net to get the fish into the boat. Unfortunately, our net was about half the size we needed for this fish. He reached so far to net the fish that Johnny almost fell out of the boat! When we finally got the fish into the boat, everybody was ecstatic! It was flopping all around while my dad was trying to take the hook out of its mouth. On the way back to the dock, I sat beside the stringer of fish, that was hanging from the side of the boat. My day turned out to be fantastic and that night my fish fed six people! Have you ever caught a fish? What was it like? If you haven’t, would you like to? Why or why not?

Me with all of the fish. (On the stringer.)

Me with the fish I caught.

I have caught a fish before but they said that it was too small. But my dad did catch a 10 pounder. We had a cook cook it. It was yummy and some people didn't want their fish so we also got to eat their fish.

I enjoy going fishing so I have experience. The first time I went fishing, se went fishing for Catfish. I caught six in total. (Me and Joshua W.) We caught pretty big ones and were pretty happy. As I remember, I think we took the fish home and ate them. It tasted really good, espicially because it was fresh.

Great post!
I have never caught a fish because:
1. I don't know how to operate a fishing pole
2. I don't love seeing animals die before my eyes
3. I have a pet fish and it is just gives me a weird feeling when I kill the same animal group as my pet fish.
4. I do't know the process after you have a fish on bite.
I don't really want to fish also because of all the reasons stated above. I would like to fish though, for fun, not for killing and hurting. I can do that using magnetic hooks not real hooks that hurt the poor fish. I would also catch and release by keeping all fish in an aquarium and releasing them at the end of the day. Sadly, I haven't done that either because of the reason that I have no equipment therefore I can't do the catching part of the catch and release plot.

By the way, great post!

Hi Courtney,
Great post! I have been fishing and it was a really fun thing to do. I have been fishing a couple times but my favorite was when I was on a vacation in Oregon. I caught a fish that was about the same size as your first fish. I wished that my mom could have cooked the fish but she didn't let me.

Wonderful post, Courtney!
No, I have never caught a fish, but I would like to. My grandpa in Taiwan once tried to teach me how to fish, but it was too hot outside and I wasn't patient enough. I went back inside to watch TV while he caught a goldfish and an eel. Now I regret that I missed my chance to learn how to fish and want to learn how to fish now.

Nice post Courtney!

I have never caught a fish before, but I would love too.(I have been "fishing" but we had really bad rods and we were not in a place where there were fish, it was just for fun and practice) It is a nice family activity and you are always paying attention to your line. I hope to do "real" fishing.
Again, great post!

That was a nice experience, awesome post! I would not fishing because it will just be like sitting on the boat or dock for 3 hours reading and waiting or a fish.

I've never fished before, but I really want to. I've been to a fishing dock before, but that was to ride a motorboat.

Great post, Courtney! I have never been fishing before, so I have never caught a fish. But that might change this summer. I'm going to a family reunion in Idaho, and we are going fishing! I really want to catch a big fish like you! Again, awesome post!

Dear Courtney,

I have not caught a fish and do not want to. I do not think it is right to kill an animal for food. My family is vegetarian and we are fine eating tofu soup, fried vegetables and rice.

I enjoy fishing as a hobby, but mostly I caught Catfish. I tried for Rainbow Trout once, but I didn't catch any. Great Post!
