Discovery on Antarctica
By: Nick

20 years of drilling. Drill drill drill. Finally! Recently, Russian researchers have found a lake on Antarctica. Lake Vostok is the largest lake of Antarctica, 50 miles wide and 160 miles long. That is huge! It is similar to Lake Ontario, near New York. American and British researchers have drilled other lakes too, but they are smaller and younger.

Scientists around the world are eager about this discovery of the lake. They are waiting for water samples to test. They want to see if there is any possibility of life in that dark, cold lake. There might be bacteria, thriving in the unknown. Who knows? Nobody so far. The bacteria could be similar or the same as the bacteria on the ocean floor. " The more we learn about life, the more we learn about its ability to grow and survive and do well in environments that we formerly thought were too inhospitable." That's what one of NASA's senior scientists, David Morrison, said.

Drilling Lake Vostok has made it easier and a lot more possible to test new and different technologies. Those technologies could also be used to test similar parts of the solar system. "Conditions in lakes in Antarctica are the closest we can get to those where scientists expect to find extraterrestrial life." said Valery Lukin, the head of Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute. Researchers believe that the conditions of the lake are close to those found under an ice crust on Mars, Jupiter's moon Europa, and on a moon of the planet Saturn. The study of Lake Vostok will help scientists determine which part of space to research next.  Do you think that there is a possibility of life that has a complex mind like us? Why or why not?

Great post, Nick! I think there is a possibility of life that has a complex mind. People are always finding strange things that don't match the normal ideas written in our textbooks. Because the "real" facts are always changing, I think there is a possibility. Also, many living species adopt very well.

Most likely. As we all know, we were evolved from monkeys. So maybe something evolved from penguins! Who knows what may live on Earth. This will definitely lead us to a living thing other than bacteria. We can't be sure anything's extinct and maybe aliens live, ice dragon still exist, or anything! Things thought to be extinct 2000 years ago are found, who knows what we'll encounter! A main Native American refuge could be in hiding there feeding off pengiuns or something like that. The possibilities are endless to infinty!

I don't think that they would be as smart as us because it too more than a million years for us to evolve to how we are today.

Nice post.

Yes. I think it is very possible. The universe is huge, and we haven't yet explored every part of it. I would be amazing if there really was other creatures like us. Great post Nick.

Great post!
I don't think there is life there because I don't believe in aliens and that stuff.

I loved your post Nick! I think we can fin beings with a more complex or as complex minds as us. I agree with George in his comment, and hope that if there is life like us, they should be treated as well as us.

Awesome post ,Nick. I think there is life of a complex mind as ours. People may not know there are billions of universes out there. At least one of them must have life too. Over all, nice post!

That is a very interesting topic! I think that scientists will find other animals in the lake. I think they will be similar to penguins or even polar bears. Since humans have complex minds, I think that we would have found another animal with a complex mind by now. Also, if there was another animal with a complex mind, they probably would have already found humans.

Terrific post, Nick! I think there is a possibility of life with a complex mind. Maybe something evolved from an animal. Once again, great post!

Great post! I think there is always a possibility of something like that, but I think it is extremely unlikely to be true because humans took so long to evolve our brains, and if something like this existed, I think we probably would have already known about it. There's always a possibility though.

I think that there might be a possibility of life with complex minds because we did evolve from homosapiens.
