Oil Spill
By: Pallavi

On April 20th, in the Gulf of Mexico a big explosion occurred in a Oil Rig which was the biggest oil spill in the history of the U.S. This was 5,000 feet below sea level. The explosion also caused all the oil to spill into the ocean. It also caused 500 fires in the oil platform which caused a few deaths and serious injuries to all the workers. As you know oil is bad for animals and this oil might endanger animals in a big way. This Oil well in the Gulf of Mexico called the "Deepwater Horizon well" is said to be leaking around 5000 barrels(200,000 gallons) a day. The oil spill has reached the shores of Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi & Florida.  The dolphins, sea otters, mussels, clams, shrimp, birds & hundreds of other animals are dying. The oil spill has a huge environmental impact and is also affecting the fishing industry. BP, the owner of this oil rig, and the coast guard are involved in the clean-up of this oil spill. What would you do to try to save the animals and clean up the mess? How do you think we can prevent things like this from happening in the future?

First I would really try to raise the money to do the clean up. You need the money because other wise how HOW are you going to clean up? Then while you are raising money for the clean up you could take a separate boat and go for a hunt of animals and then take them on the boat and help then live. The way we could prevent is that someone will be behind the boat and will watch if some oil comes out or you could set an underwater camera then if any oil comes out you would have big buckets on the boat and then start scoop and clean would be kind of the same with the big buckets.

I would try to burn the oil. They have already tried this, but it wasn't that successful. I still think we should do it. They could also try to move most of the wild life out of the area. To prevent this they can make sure that every time you deal with oil in the ocean it should be much more secure. I think putting an extra wrapping of medal around it would help.

I would, if I had all the pieces, make a solar powered vacuum that filters the oil from the water and pumps the water back in to the ocean. But I don't think I or anybody could make that. Since oil floats to the top of the water. We can make a huge wall under the oil, so no more oil could get into the water. People could walk on the wall and push the oil into a solar powered boat. Then we could ship the oil to other places and also save the animals. But then, if we put a wall, then dolphins and other air breathing sea mammals can't breath. But we could take those sea animals and put them in a safe spot, so they could live happily. After all the oil is cleaned out, we can put the sea animals back where they were. We can stop using oil ships and use solar powered boats.

I will use less toilet paper and napkins. Some animals are dying from habitat loss too. I will try to donate money to the workers that were injured if they have a donation. We can make the oil on land in a special container.

To try to stop the oil from spilling, I think BP could get a boat that has a plow on it so the boat can plow all the oil to a place where there is not much wildlife. There are many ways that we can prevent future oil spills. The best way we can do this is to make strict laws on oil drilling like you can only drill oil if you follow all the safety rules and have a inspection every month. Another way to prevent oil spills is to have giant barriers around a rig so if it leaks, all the oil will gather inside the barriers.

I would try to save the anmials by separating the oil from the ocean. I will convince people to come and help clean up the mess. You can prevent things from happening in the future by using less oil so people don't need to dig underground for more oil.

First, I would send people immediately to help clean up the spill. They would use some sort of vacuum, if one exists, to absorb the water affected. The water would then be transferred to a cleaning plant and the oil would be cleaned out. The clean water would then be returned back to the ocean. To stop this from happening, people should thoroughly check the ship for any defects.

I would use different robots to close the three gapes in the fallen pipe that is leaking oil. The robots have closed one hole but the other two are still leaking oil.

I would try to lead the animals to a different place where there is no oil in the water so the animals can live. To clean up the mess, I would use boats and try to get the oil out with nets or buckets. I would prevent it from happening in the future by not putting things like oil close to the water.

To save the animals, I would put a net around the place that has the oil spill. Then, I would filter the oil from the water. To stop oil spills, they should not put so much oil on the ship and go more rounds. That way, if they spill the oil, they will spill less oil.

To save the animals, I would transfer them to another place where it could be possible for them to live. Then, people could clean up the mess with some tools they would noramally use if this happened. We could prevent the oil spills from happening if the workers check the oil barrels and make sure that there would be no way that the oil could leak.

I would really try not to let any oil spill, and whenever I am near to doing something like that, I will always take a minute to stop and remember what bad harm I am doing to the environment.

I would spend millions of dollars,if I were rich,to help clean up the oil spill. Oil spills are very serious to the environment and could kill thousands of animals including endangered animals. To prevent this horrible disaster in the future I would send more ships with less oil loaded on then send a huge boat with gallons and gallons of oil. If the boats do explode they would spill much less oil than the oil spill in the Gulf of New Mexico.

I think we can help by donating to foundations that help with this. I also think people who live nearby can volunteer to help clean up and help the animals that are full of oil. I think ways people can prevent things like that from happening is by checking the equipment before they leave and by testing it. Last, they should should use the tools the goverment tells them to use.
