Immortal Jellyfish
By: Brandon

We briefly learned about the "Fountain of Youth" in social studies and how it did not exist. Scientists have recently discovered a type of jellyfish that may be the only animal that has discovered it. Some animals, like salamanders, can only grow back limbs, but the jellyfish, turritopsis nutricula, can turn back into a polyp once it gets hurt in adult form. A polyp is the first stage of the life of a jellyfish, so this means it can repeat its life over and over again. Turritopsis nutricula used to only be native in the Caribbean. Because they are immortal, they can now they can be found oceans all around Earth. Luckily, this species of jellyfish can't repeatedly multiplying because it can still die. It may have the potential of being immortal, but another a predator can just come and swallow it in one bite. This type of jellyfish is only 0.18 wide and almost the same in height. Although it is very small, the turritopsis nutricula can develop up to 80 to 90 tentacles in adult form. When it is young, it only has about eight tentacles. So, you can clearly see almost anything can eat this type of jellyfish. What would you want to do if you could possibly live forever like this type of jellyfish? Please explain why.

If I could live forever like this type of jellyfish and I had a choice of whether I could or not, I wouldn't choose to because you could see your loved ones die. Anyways, I would help people by giving the food that I buy to charity and homeless people because I wouldn't need to eat.

If I could live forever, I would most likely be an explorer. I would explore the world when I'm old and then compare how different it is when I was a little child. I would keep a journal too, just in case I forgot how the world was when I was a child.

If I was like this type of jellyfish I would not take things easy even though I am "immortal. I would try being like everything else and not be like "Oh I am immortal I don not care if I get hurt". But I really would be happy if I could turn back in to a baby and I would love to never die except if I am eaten.

I would help keep the world clean because we live on it. I would tell people to reuse and recycle because if we don't we wiol have a lot more land fills.

If I could live forever, I would learn how to be doctor or nurse, so I could help other people live. Then, I would be a scientist so I could try to find some cures for diseases so that more people could live. I would do all this so more people can live more and not just me.
