Savita's Post

Diwali
By: Savita

We celebrated Diwali on October 17. Diwali is called festival of lights. My family did exciting things. That is a day that I can never forget in my life. In the morning we woke up nice and early to get ready to dress up. We first prayed to the God to get good health and study well. We got new clothes that we never wore before. I wore an
Indian dress that was green and red. We hit the road and were on the way to my friend’s house. Everyone did programs that we practiced for several weeks. I made a movie by interviewing my friends to ask them what they thought about Diwali. I danced for two Indian songs. I sang one prayer song and one classical music song. Bursting firecrackers were awesome. We burst some that went in circles on a stem. It looked like sparkles flying all around the stem. That was what I did for Diwali. What is one festival you like to celebrate? What is special about that function?

Since I am Indian, Diwali is also my favorite festival. My favorite part is the firecracker part. Even though it isn't that loud, it seems like it bursts your ears.

I also celebrate Diwali. We went to a friends house for the party and did firecrackers as well and also had these rockets and when lighted, they sent out a shower of sparks and "fireworks". There was also these spinning things that gave off sparks and one spark flew off and burned a hole in my shirt!! At home we lighted diyas(candles). I think Diwali is really fun.

If you are a kid eating rice cake means you will have good grades next year. If you are an adult, eating rice cake means you will have good progress and job will go smoothly next year. Also, eating peanuts on Chinese New Year means good welth. Next year try to eat as much peanuts as you can!!( not tooooooo much peanuts though!!)

A festival that I like to celebrate is the Moon Cake Festival. I remember that when I was six or seven, I had a party with my parent's friends and children and after we ate, we would play a game. There were six die and we would all take turns rolling it, to get a certain prize. The best prize was a moon cake and other ones were grapes (you could get grapes anytime), and many different kinds food. It was fun, and I only got a moon cake once. After that, the children, which includes me, my sister, and two older girls, talked about different things, like books, etc. The boys are all in college now. Then at midnight or two o'clock everyone would leave. That was one of the best parties ever.

Chinese New Year and Moon festival are my favorite. On chinese New year, there is a big party. At the end, parents give red bags filled with money. Red is the chinese color. On moon festival, there is also a big party. On that day, the moon should be full and yellow. When the moon comes out of its hiding place, my family starts slicing the moon cake and enjoing. yum!

I like moon festival because you get to eat moon cakes. It is special because it celebrates the full moon. On the moon festival, you can see the full moon which looks very beautiful. It looks very pretty if you look at the full moon at night.

I also love diwali because the firecrackers part is really fun to do at least when I do it with my brother. My most favorite firecracker was the one when you light it up with a different firecracker then it goes up and spins, when the cracker was in the air I was SCREAMING to death. May be the whole neighbor heard me. There was another fire cracker that was my favorite. That firecracker when you light it little sparks go scater out in a circle. As you know Diwali can be amazing disaster festival!

I am Chinese so I like to celebrate Chinese New Year because I get lots of free money. Also I get to stay up to midnight and light candles. My favorite part is I get to hang out with my friends for a very long time. Overall, my favorite festival is Chinese New Year.

My favorite celebration is the Chinese New Year. The main thing that is good about this celebration is you can get new money your parents or relatives. Plus, sometimes you get a 2 dollar bill which you can't find so easily in circulation. So for most kids, including me, consider the Chinese New Year a great time to get lots of money without doing a bunch of chores. Some lucky kids get a hundred dollars or even a thousand dollars. As you can see , Chinese New Year is my favorite holiday because you can get money by doing nothing.

I also enjoy celebrating Diwali. I always look forward to the evening so we can light some firecrackers. When you have lit them, it looks really cool. We also put candles around the house. It was a lot of fun celebrating Diwali.

I am indian and I also celebrate Diwali. It is a very fun festival. I celebrate it because an indian god named Krishna killed a bad demon called Narakasura. Diwali celebrates the killing of Narakasura. I celebrated Diwali by taking a nice bath then changing into brand new clothes. Then, later on in the day we went to my friend's house and we ended the day with bright sparkles. You light the sparklers up with fire and they shoot out sparks.

Christmas or Easter would be my favorite. Easter is when Christians celebrate Jesus' resurrection from the dead. God brings him to life and angels help him get out of the cave with a rock in front of the entrance. Later when he was with his disciples (helpers or followers) on a hill he rose up in the air and went into heaven. I think Easter is known for the Easter Egg Hunt, but that is not my favorite part. Christmas is about Jesus' birth.
Our Church has a really good serves for it that I enjoy.
I also enjoy the presents. Every year my sister and I fight to see who has more presents.

A festival that I celebrate is Chinese New Year. I celebrate it at home and in my Chinese school. In my Chinese school, we first have to memorize a line about the year in the Chinese zodiac. For example if its the tiger year then we have to say something in chinese about the tiger. But they only let you have one day to memorize them, so you will immediately forget it after you go home. Then, there are these volunteers who perform a show about the year. When we go back to class we recieve red bags and they have either one dollar or two dollars in it. At home my mom also gives me red bags with more money in it.

One of my favorite festivals, since I am Chinese, is New Years Eve. It is not the same time as America's New Years Eve. On New Years Eve, we get to have red envelopes with money in them. The envelopes are red because read is China and Taiwan's lucky color.

My favorite festival is also Diwali, the festival of lights. We had a big party and some of my friends came to my house. We had so much fun. We threw small balls which made a popping sound when they landed on the ground. We also played with small firecrackers. Diwali was really fun.

I celebrate Thanksgiving, but it is different by America's Thanksgiving. We celebrate different times each year. This year, we celebrated it on October 3rd. We play a games, eat rice cakes, and eat beef. The games we play is a Korean traditional game we usually only play at Thanksgiving.
I guess Thanksgiving is my favorite festival!

Yeah! I celebrated Diwali too! It was pretty fun! We put candles all over and inside or house. We floated candles on our swimming pool! However, Diwali isn't my favorite festival. My favorite "festival" would probably be halloween! SO... yeah!

See ya!
