Stories from India
by Anita

I like reading stories from Indian mythology.  My favorite book is called the Puffin book of Classic Indian Tales. The book has stories from Ramayana, Mahabharata, Panchatantra and other folk tales. Mahabharata and Ramyana are famous stories about princes and kings from long time ago. Some stories have their setting in the heaven and the earth. The gods use magic powers in these stories to beat the demons and help people. The stories are exciting and funny to read. The illustrations are very colorful. When I was very young my grandma used to tell me some of these stories. The book also helps me learn about Indian history and culture. What is your favorite story from your culture and why?

My favorite story in Chinese culture is Chong Er. The story is about a woman that is realy selfish and wants to have a long life. A lama gives her a long life pill and told her to share it with her husband. After she went home she ate the pill whole. she flew of onto the moon and was NEVER heard from again.

My favorite story is the epic Ramayna, the story of how Ram killed the ten headed demon king, Ravan. He was helped by Hanuman, the prince of monkeys and the son of Sugreeve.
