Kelly's Post

 Wonder Struck
By: Kelly

For the next book on your reading contract, I recommend that you read Wonder Struck, by Brian Selznick (the author of The Invention of Hugo Cabret).  It is a complex, realistic fiction novel expressing the adventures of two young characters; Ben and his grandmother Rose.  Rose’s story is showed in pictures, and Ben’s story, set fifty years later, is described with words.  I think the cool part of the book is how their stories are connected and synchronized.
Ben, a young boy who is deafened by a strike of lightning, is searching for his father, whom he has never met, and after his mom passes away, he feels like he doesn’t belong anywhere, so he runs away from home and, with a few clues, finds himself in New York.
Rose has been deaf from birth, but she can communicate well with sign language.  Her mother is a famous actress and doesn’t seem to have time for her, and she feels like she doesn’t fit in.
In part three of the book, we speed up to current time- Ben’s time- and Ben finally meets his grandmother.  Will Ben find his father? Can Rose ever feel accepted? It may seem predictable now, but wait until you see the twists and surprises the author hides from you in the pages of this book.  Thank you for reading my blog post- please comment on any other book you recommend to your peers.

One book I think is extremely interesting is a book called Book of a Thousand Days. This book is about a poor orphan named Dashti. She looked for a job, and since she knows healing songs that work, she got a job to be a maid for a princes that is getting locked up in a tower for seven years because she refuses to marry the person that her dad wants her to marry. The princess has many secrets, and together they form a bond and go through any adventures together.

I strongly recommend reading The Doll People series. In this series, there are three books. My favorite one is "The Runaway Dolls" because the dolls in it have an exciting adventure and even found their long lost sister.

Nice post Kelly! I would recommend Tunnels by Brian Williams and Roderick Gordon. I like it because it shows how a young boy learns his true identity, and how he suffers the wrath of the people called the Styx. If you like this book, I strongly recommend you to read the remaining books in the series: Deeper and Closer, where suspense is in the air.

I recommend the Akiko series by Mark Crilley. This series is very funny and also interesting at the same time. It is a science fiction series. The main characters are a girl named Akiko, a robot named Gax, a purple-headed without-arms-or-legs person named Poog, and two people who argue a lot with each other named Spuckler and Mr. Beeba. Their mission for the first four books is to rescue a kidnapped prince. Then, they go off for other adventures.

Great post Kelly! I have also read this book; you let me borrow your copy. Yes, this book really does have some nice twist to it. Just when you get to a good part in the picture part of the story, they change to words. The characters also shared some similar experiences. READ THIS BOOK!!!
A book I would recommend most people to read is "Touching Spirit Bear". Though it may not seem interesting, the book is actually very good. Its quite touching and has a lesson to teach about bullying; when someone is bullied, both the bully and the victim has to heal. Whether it is physical or not, it is true. The bully has to get over why he/she did it and the victim has to get over being bullied. Both the bully and the victim need to forgive each other.

The book I would recommend is Cleopatra VII. It's an autobiography that shows Cleopatra's journal. It is a very good book, about 175 pages long, and is somewhere in the 5.0s. Anyway, great post Kelly!
