Earthquake in Haiti

If you have heard the news, there was an unexpected earthquake in Haiti. Haiti is a country in the Hispaniola Island, which is the second largest island in the Caribbean. The epicenter of the earthquake was 15 miles from PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti. It happened on Jan 12, 2010 4:35 pm local time. It was followed by many small after shocks. The magnitude of the quake was 7.0. It was a powerful hit to the country. Thousands of people have died because of the earthquake. Can you believe they don’t have firefighters in Haiti to help them out? Buildings collapsed and one of hospitals had fallen down. Haiti is a very poor nation and it needs help now. Our country is sending doctors and medicines to help them. There is an organization named Red Cross that is also helping people in Haiti.We can do several things to help them. We can pray for them, donate money or supplies. We need to support them. What is one thing you will do (or could do) to help the people of Haiti? Should the U.S. help out this country? Why or why not?

I could donate money to them. The U.S. should help them because they are in need of supplies and people to help and we are rich and have resources.
I can donate money to Unicef. I will try to donate as much as the box can hold. I think we should help because the people in Haiti are poor. Just like what Savita said, Haiti has no firefighters to help the citizens there. I saw the news and found out how many people were hurt and injured. Some even died from hospital equipment shortage. I also saw a helicopter dropping needs from the sky. As soon as it dropped, the people fought each other to get what they want. Few died from that too.
I could help Haiti by donating money. Also, I can pray for them because I believe that God is trying to teach us a lesson. As you know, they are a poor country and cannot afford to build new buildings. Money is a big reason why many citizens have died and many houses have collapsed. Haiti is unfortunate to have suffered, so I think that the United States should help out this poor country. A reason that I say this is because it was partly our fault. If this country was lacking so much money, why didn't we bother to help them? I understand that maybe the president has other important cases to take care of, but then that means that we, as humans, will suffer great losses. We are not on this earth to do our own thing, but to help others and become friends. If we had helped them, there wouldn't have been so many severe damage. Another reason is that if we help them, we will receive respect from other countries, not only Haiti, and have help when we are in trouble. I think that we should all do what we can to help Haiti.
I agree the earthquake was huge! A 7.0 is not small. We should help Haiti because there was a lot of damage done,not only that the buildings are so weak that even when there isn't an earthquakes the buildings collapse. We need to enforce there buildings and help them. Barack Obama is trying his best to help them.
I could donate at least $10 to the Red Cross. The United States should help Haiti because they are a very poor country and they have very little resources. We are a very rich country and have many resources so we should help Haiti out.
In science we are learning about earthquakes! (Geology and earth science isn't my best subject in science...)

I donate money and pray for them. Donating and praying can really help. Haiti is a very poor country so you are helping build it up. When you pray to God, (if you believe in one) he will help you. I think this is a very serious subject because like you said Haiti is a very poor country, so the buildings there are not strong at all. In result of everything being ruined. U.S. should help out with this problem. I think the whole world should help out. If the United States of America helps everything will be repaired sooner.
I could donate some clothes and canned food to them. That way,they can survive until help comes. The U.S should help Haiti because it is a very poor place. They could use all the help they need. If I could get some, I would donate some strong building supplies for the people who live in Haiti so they can build stronger houses to survive unexpected things, like this earthquake.

I think America should definitely help Hati. The earthquake was a 7.0 and a lot of people got hurt so America should help deliver food to all the earthquake survivors.

I could help Haiti by donation money to them. The news said that after Haiti got hit by a 7.0 earthquake, on January 20 there was a 5.9 earthquake. So I would probably send food, supplies, and money. I also saw on the news that if some people get something, other people will come and steal it from them. If they can't steal it, then they will just fight until they give the supplies up. So basically the people who are stronger get most of the supplies, which is very cruel. The U.S. should help this country because Haiti is a very poor country. So without help this country may eventually have not a thing that's living on it. Although I still think that the United States should help Haiti, I don't think that we should use plenty of money to donate to Haiti. I think this because America is also having some big economy problems. If we give most of our money, the situation could be even worse here.
I could help Haiti by donating money. The earthquake crashed down many buildings because they're really weak. Also, lots of people died because the earthquake was so big.

I can donate money to them, because in this state the world needs to act like one big family. Even though you might not want to respect others like part of you family we are distantly related. So if you give the world a little love, the world will give love back to you. I think the U.S. should help Haiti get itself back together because, as I said, the world is in a bad condition. The only way to bring it better is if we all work together, and if you help someone out they might return the favor to you. My family donated money to the Red Cross to help the people who were hurt in this earthquake. A couple of years ago there was a big earthquake in Pakistan too,and a lot of people were killed there too.That is why we know what the people of Haiti are going through. I'm praying for the people in Haiti.
If I were to do something to help the people in Haiti I would donate food and have a food drive. A lot of the people in Haiti do not have any food or water and fight over such important supplies. Haiti is a very poor country and is in big need of help. I think the U.S. should help because this country is already in crisis. It is very important that people help out so more people don't die.

Haiti had a GIANT earthquake. Since Haiti not a devloped country, most of its buildings are made not good enough to survive an earthquake. Most people can't afford many essencial and basic needs for the houses like strong walls and a good roof. On the news I saw many injured people. Against an earthquake that strong every building would have just toppled over. One way that we could help is to collect money,food, and aid. Another way is to start a fundraiser where you make stuff and sell it, get the money and all the money we get to the Red Cross. I think everyone should try to help Haiti after its strong and devestating earthquake.
As you know Haiti is a very poor country and they NEED more supplies for them to surive that they do not have and the U.S. is trying to help them get healtheir and strong. Something I would do to help is to donate something they would REALLY need to stay alive. Some supplies I would donate is clothing I do not need and food that are ready to be eaten or money to the goverment and then it would help the goverment get the money to help them.

I will donate money to them. The whole U.S. could help Haiti's people. Then we would send more money for the injured people during the earthquake. We would send MORE money to help build better houses for them.
