Katherine's Post

The Earth
by: Katherine

There are many wonders in this world, but my favorite thing about it is watching the stars, making things, and animals. When your in America, the stars are numerous and make the sky even more beautiful than it is without it. The stars light up the sky and make you feel better even though it doesn't even say anything. Stars are peaceful and seem to reach out to you. Another reason I like them is because I'm a Christian, and a story in the bible said that a star guided men to where Jesus was born even though Satan made it shine, but then an angel made them go another way so they wouldn't obey Satan. It shows the power of God. Sometimes when I'm bored while on the grass with flowers all over the place, I make a necklace or bracelet, but sometimes there's not a lot of flowers so I make rings. You poke in near the end of the stem and make a hole, but don't make a hole that's too big! Then you put another flower through it until you want to stop. Lastly, I like animals, but not the ones that could hurt you, like snakes. Two times this year, pigeons laid eggs in a broken lamp because the shape is perfect for a nest! My family actually saw the baby birds grow up! Now they have their own little babies, but they don't visit often because a cat is there. The cat plays with them until they are too tired and leave them there to die. Isn't that cruel? One of their little babies was hurt very badly, so we took it in and fed it food and gave it water, but the next morning, it was dead! That's when the pigeons stopped coming as often, and I was sad and wished that the little bird's friends forgave us. I wish that next year birds would lay eggs again! What are the things that you like on this earth and why?

Your Favorite Book
By: Julie

What is your favorite book? My favorite book is The Tale Of Despereaux. I like it because it has many interesting characters like Despereaux the big-eared mouse and a mouse that puts on make-up named Antoinette. The Tale Of Despereaux is filled with funny events. The movie is totally different from the book. I think the book is better than the movie because it encourages me to read on. However, in the movie you can see the real events which is good too. I would like to know your favorite book and why it is your favorite. Be sure to be specific!!!

Family Fun Night
By:Angeline

Murdock-Portal Fall Family Fun Night was last Saturday and it was so exiting. There were so many games to play and so much food to enjoy.
The first game I chose to played was Biggest Number because my friend, Amy, and her dad volunteered for that. There was a slanted board with slots labeled with numbers 1, 2, and 3. I got three balls and tried to roll into a slot with the 3, the biggest number. I did not get the biggest number but I got an interesting one. I got the numbers 1, 2 , and 3!
Then I went to the Cake Walk. The game was so popular! There were so many people I almost didn't get spot! When I got in, Mr. Roels was playing too. When the music stopped, Mr. Roels was standing on the letter Q. He started chanting " Q Q Q Q." Then the game organizer pulled out the letter and it was Q!! I played 2 times but did not get anything! How lucky he was.
My sister, Emily, came to Family Fun Night too. She didn't come to play. She came because she volunteered. Emily is a freshman in high school and graduated from Portal. She was there to help her elementary school. Her game was Amaze-O. Lots of people came to play that my sister ran out of prizes!

While I was playing, I saw people getting plates of food. My mouth started watering and my tummy started growling. I went to the picnic area and saw many varieties of food. There were American, Chinese, Indian, and Japanese food. The choices of desserts were endless! Cakes, cookies, brownies, and cupcakes you name it!
Time passed so fast. Before I knew it, The event ended and I had to go home. I left with a full stomach, a head full of memories, and a smile on my face. I am looking forward to the next Family Fun Night. What did you do at Family Fun Night? If you didn't go, what are you looking forward to doing at the next Family Fun Night?

Newest movies
By: Jeffrey

Have you watched the newest movies? The newest movies are Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Transformers Revenge of the Fallen, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, G.I. Joe Rise of the Cobra, and G-Force. This weekend I watched Harry Potter and the Half- Blood Prince. Even though it is rated B- I would rate it an A. During the movie some kids who were watching suddenly yelled at the part where Albus Dumbledore falls down the building. The screaming sound ruined that part of the movie. Also I think I am going to go and watch G-Force because my brother wants to watch it. The other movies I think are rated pretty good. Tell me what is your favorite movie?

Conference Week
By: Neil

Hey kids! Do you feel like homework takes your entire day? Do you think you have little time to play? Then go to school to get this great offer! This offer is for a limited time. This week is conference week. I like it because I have more time to play in my front or backyard. Today I played dodge ball with my sister. I also sometimes play inside with my brother or sister. I have more opportunities to go to my friends' house. It's great because you can get your homework done early, so you're not stressed when dinner comes. What do you like about conference week and why?

Three Day Weekend
 By: Sarah
Did you have a good three day weekend? Well, I did. On Saturday, I had a party at night until one in the morning. On Sunday, I went to a beach at Gilroy. Gilroy is thirty minutes away from here. Afterwards, we went hiking on this really sunny trail. We got tired so we decided to go on a different "trail" (we were actually lost and found our way back). We also had another party until one in the morning. On Monday, I went to Bonfante Gardens also at Gilroy. I went with two family friends. When we first got there, we went on a Mushroom swing. It is when you sit on a seat and lift you really, really high. Once your really high they spin you around really fast. I also went on a rollar coaster ten times! I couldn't stop, it was way too fun! It was called the QuickSilver. You first go really steep and high, then you start going down really fast and bumping on to the sides. After a while, we had to leave. We went to this noodle restaurant and ate for one hour. In conclusion, my three day weekend turned out really fun! What did you do on your weekend?

  Hawaii
 by Joshua

This summer I went to Hawaii for summer.

Hawaii is a beautiful island, but sometimes it can be dangerous too. Volcano's burst lava out of their tops. It makes a big explosions and burn mostly anything. The island can also be peaceful. You can walk down the street and feel the warm breeze pushing on you. Then suddenly you could see the beautiful beach scenery. In beaches and bays you can see different types of sea animals. I have experience snorkeling, so I got to see lots of see animals (some scary ones too). If global warming does not stop all the sea animals would die.
If you went to Hawaii w
hat would you do?

My Heroes
By: Anika

Hello everybody! The two people you are looking at the right are my two heros. They are very important to me because they teach me many things when I am in the middle of  a tornament. One important thing that I learn from them is how they do all the moves. When I was in Texas it was not much of a fight. When I went to Las Vegas, Nevada there were plenty of fights over there. The only reason there were about a 1,500 competitors. Some other things I would usally learn from my brother. Some other things I learned about them is movement and timing for sparring this way I won sparring in the JUNIOR OLYMPICS  gold medal. That medal means a lot to me especilly when I am wearing it. So
who is your hero and why do you think they are the best?
